PRODUCTION OF HORIZONTAL STEEL TANKS (RGS)
Horizontal RGS tanks are used for the technical equipping of oil storage facilities, oil depots, and at oil extraction, oil refining, and other industrial sites. They are used not only for storing various types of liquids but also for measuring volume and dispensing the stored medium. Depending on the type of internal coating, they can store light and dark petroleum products, various fuels and lubricants, chemicals, as well as food products and water; they can also function as fire tanks.
TOO SAMRUK KAZ produces horizontal steel RGS tanks for storing and receiving/dispensing liquid raw materials with a density of no more than 1 t/m3 at temperatures from –60°C to +90°C.
Typically, horizontal tanks are used for storing liquids with a volume of up to 100 cubic meters. For larger storage volumes, vertical tanks are used.
Provided the manufacturer complies with quality requirements, an RGS tank is capable of withstanding internal pressure up to 0.07 MPa and seismic vibrations up to 7 points.
The price of a horizontal steel tank is determined by the thicknesses of the wall, heads, roof, steel grade, and its complete set of equipment.
Horizontal cylindrical tanks manufactured by NIKOYLSERVICE are produced in accordance with GOST R 52630-2012 "Welded Steel Vessels and Apparatus", GOST 17032-2010 "Horizontal Steel Tanks for Petroleum Products". The quality of our products is confirmed by Permit No. RRS.00-047039 and Certificate of Conformity No. Ross.RU.AB17.po1286.
TOO SAMRUK KAZ produces various types of horizontal steel RGS tanks. By spatial arrangement, there are above-ground RGSN tanks and underground RGSP tanks. Installation at ground level is also possible, where the body is underground, and the process nozzles, manhole, and hatches are above ground level.
Structurally, RGS tanks can be single-walled and double-walled, single-, double-, and multi-chamber (with partitions) for simultaneous storage of different types of liquids.
Single-walled horizontal RGS tanks / Double-walled RGS tanks:
· RGSn: horizontal single-walled steel tank for above-ground installation;
· RGSDn: horizontal double-walled steel tank for above-ground installation;
· RGSp: horizontal single-walled steel tank for underground installation;
· RGSDp: horizontal double-walled steel tank for underground installation.
When manufacturing a double-walled RGS tank, the space between the walls is filled with nitrogen or liquid. The entire inter-wall space is filled, and the tank is equipped with a closed pumping system for it.
Single-section / double-section / multi-section RGS tanks:
All the above RGS constructions can be made with one or more chambers (sections). The chambers are formed by specially designed partitions inside the tank body. Thus, the RGS tank is divided into two or more compartments, in which liquid raw materials of various grades can be stored. When manufacturing two-chamber or multi-chamber horizontal tanks, we guarantee the hermetic sealing of the chambers.
RGS tanks are produced with various types of heads: flat - for RGS up to 8 m3, conical - for volumes above 8 m3. Elliptical and spherical shapes are used for high-pressure operation.
Our design and manufacturing practice shows that for excess pressure below 0.04 MPa, it is better to use membrane heads in RGS tanks with a volume from 3 to 10 m3 and a diameter up to 2.8 m. The conical shape is more advantageous for storing petroleum products in RGS tanks from 25 to 75 m3 with a diameter up to 3.25 m and with an excess pressure up to 0.05 MPa. Large volume RGS tanks with cylindrical heads and a diameter of 3.25 m are suitable for various liquids under an excess pressure up to 0.07 MPa.
Standard equipment includes technological hatches and manholes. At the Customer's request, additional equipment can be installed for long, reliable, and safe operation – supports, saddles, drain/fill nozzles, inspection platforms and ladders, heating devices (for viscous products), liquid level measurement instruments, alarm devices, and other attached equipment.
Above-ground RGSn tanks:
Horizontal steel tanks for petroleum products and other liquids for above-ground installation (RGSn) are typically made of St3sp5 steel, 09G2S alloy steel, "stainless" or "food-grade" steels.
The standard RGSn package includes a manhole, steel saddles, and lifting lugs.

Design of Horizontal Cylindrical Steel Tanks (RGS):
Structural elements of a horizontal cylindrical RGS tank:
· support section,
· shell body and stiffening nodes,
· end sections of the body (heads),
· attached equipment.
The support section is executed in several variants:
· steel supports (support legs);
· saddle supports made of reinforced concrete;
· foundations of compacted sand with a hydrophobic layer.
The RGS body consists of cylindrical and end sections. The cylindrical part of the body is also commonly referred to as the shell, and the end parts as heads.
The cylindrical part of the body or the RGS shell consists of a project-defined number of shell courses, which are made from rolled metal and reach up to 3.25 m in diameter. The thicknesses of the rolled metal are determined by calculations for stability and strength. The shell courses are butt-welded (the assembly seam can also be overlap-welded). The RGS body is often equipped with stiffening rings.
RGS heads are of two types:
· flat heads (unribbed or ribbed) – used in RGS with excess pressure up to 40 kPa;
· conical heads – used in RGS with excess pressure from 40 kPa to 70 kPa.
Products are equipped with grounding, ladders, manholes, receiving-dispensing equipment, ventilation, and instrumentation and control (I&C) systems. Heating devices are installed as needed. Also, at the customer's request, horizontal steel tanks are subjected to anti-corrosion protection and thermal insulation.
In accordance with GOST R 52630-2006:
The manufacturer guarantees the compliance of the equipment with the requirements of GOST R 52630-2006 "Welded Steel Vessels and Apparatus" provided that storage, transportation, installation, and operation conditions are observed.
The warranty period for horizontal cylindrical steel tanks: 18 months from the date of commissioning, but no more than 24 months after shipment from the factory to the Customer.
